FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A distressed call in December prompted Communications Specialist Lucas Santos of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office to guide a frantic caller through life saving CPR instructions.

According to a news release, Santos’ quick response was life saving in aiding a woman as she performed multiple rounds of CPR on her husband who stopped breathing and complained of chest pains.

Christina Mortimer, director of the 911 communications center, emphasized the important role of dispatchers.

“One of the hardest parts of our job is that many times after a call like this, we never know how the call ends,” Mortimer said.

Earlier this month, Dan and his wife Carol visited the 911-Communications center to express their gratitude, according to a release.

During their visit, Dan placed a cut-out heart bearing Communication Specialist Santos’s name on the Communications Tree of Life.

The symbolic tree serves as a reminder of all the lives saved by FCSO, according to the release.

Santos was nominated for FCSO’s life saving award.

“Communications Specialist Lucas Santos’ quick response and calming voice helped save this man’s life. We have an amazing team of dispatchers serving in our 9-1-1 Communications Center, incredibly dedicated professionals that truly save lives. I’m proud to recognize Lucas Santos as another standout member of our team,” Sheriff Rick Staly said, commending Santos.
