BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – On Friday afternoon, a high-speed car chase that picked up in Orange County ended with the suspect crashing into a Titusville home, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

In an arrest report, troopers said the car was spotted around 2:15 p.m. near State Road 50 and Taylor Creek Road.

A trooper at the scene followed the car to a nearby gas station, attempting to pull it over due to the “darkness” of the car’s tinted windows, the report says.

After the trooper contacted the driver — later identified as Ronald Jones, 36 — Jones began “to exhibit obvious nervous behaviors,” and his ‘hands were so shaky that he dropped his license out of the window as he was handing it to me,” the report reads.

The trooper then had Jones put all of the windows down, revealing a bag in the back seat that appeared to have a firearm inside, according to the FHP.

“I then ordered Mr. Jones to sit on the front portion of my vehicle,” the trooper wrote. “Mr. Jones had a difficult time following instructions. Mr. Jones then began looking around his surroundings as if he was looking for an avenue of escape.”

Jones got back into his car — despite the trooper’s orders to the contrary — and purposefully crashed his car into the trooper’s, the report shows.

Troopers said Jones then sped away, driving over 100 mph along Cupid Avenue in a 25 mph residential zone.

He then turned right onto State Road 50, heading east toward Brevard County, troopers added.

After the trooper caught up with Jones in Brevard County, he noticed that Jones was going 83 mph over the speed limit, getting around vehicles by driving on the shoulder and running through a red light, the report states.

Once in Titusville, Jones came up on stopped traffic, so he began driving east in the westbound lanes before turning onto Barna Avenue and heading north in the southbound lanes, investigators explained.

While doing so, Jones struck another vehicle, though he fled from the crash, the trooper wrote.

Jones soon after crashed his car into a nearby occupied home, destroying the front of the house, according to the report.

Afterward, Jones tried to flee on foot, though “innocent bystanders” began to point out where Jones had gone to the responding trooper, the report says.

Troopers said Jones jumped over a nearby fence and tried to hide himself behind a home, but the trooper caught up, eventually placing Jones under arrest.

Despite the destruction, there were no injuries to any of the residents, troopers said.

According to investigators, a background check showed that Jones was on both state and federal probation at the time of his arrest.

As a result, he faces charges of aggravated fleeing, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a crash, parole violations and trespassing.

A GoFundMe account was created to help the family who lives in the home.
