ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando police officer who drove off after being pulled over by a Seminole County deputy for speeding is back on the job, according to a spokesperson for the Orlando Police Department.
Alexander Shaouni was arrested June 6 after a deputy spotted him in a marked Orlando police SUV going 80 mph in a 45-mph zone.
Once he was pulled over, Shaouni refused to give his driver’s license to the deputy, got back in his SUV and drove off, body camera video showed.
He was relieved of duty pending the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and OPD internal investigations.
OPD said Shaouni was authorized to return to work on Jan. 19 “after the resolution of Seminole County criminal case in accordance with department policy.”
“The investigation is still in the review stage with Internal Affairs. Anything related to the criminal investigation will have to be directed to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office,” a spokesperson said in an email.
Shaouni faced charges of reckless driving, fleeing and eluding law enforcement and resisting an officer without violence, however the state attorney’s office decided not to pursue the case after he completed a pretrial intervention.
