ORLANDO, Fla. – On Saturday, the non-profit YaYa’s Dream will host a community clean-up in Parramore. The organization was created after the death of 9-year-old T’Yonna Major, who was killed in 2023 by a gunman after he killed two others nearby.
Her uncle, Dominic Major said the projects the group does are in honor of the young girl.
“This is what T’Yonna wanted. She wanted to help the community, she wanted to help the homeless,” Major said. “I’m from this area. I grew up in this area. This area is in my blood, so I kind of owe it to this area.”
YaYa’s Dream has also hosted food drives and advocates against gun violence.
As Major walked in Parramore with News 6′s Troy Campbell, he pointed out new development in Parramore, but also places where there are still problems.
“What I do see is this is shiny, over there it’s still the same. As it gets more shiny, they move us out,” Major said. “Let’s change the conversation. Let’s take away the talking points.”
T’Yonna Major was also an inspiring gymnast, with aspirations to get a gymnastics scholarship.
“As tragic as it is, we are going to take that and we are going to do something beautiful with it and we are going to change this,” Major said.
