Haiti town hall to be held in Orlando amid political turbulence abroad

ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida’s Haitian community is reacting to recent violence in their home country.

A group will host the “Let Haiti Decide” town hall at 8 p.m. Friday inside 7200 Lake Ellenor Drive in Orlando.

“Both of the countryside is blocked because of gangs. The south and the north, so people in the metropolitan Port-au-Prince cannot travel to the south part of Haiti because the gang set up road blocks, tolls and also for the north side,” said Voy Nikolas.

The state of Florida also created an online portal for any Floridians or their family members who need to be evacuated from Haiti. That website is FloridaDisaster.org/Haiti.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has also ordered 270 personnel to South Florida in preparation for potential mass migration from Haiti.

“When a state faces the possibility of invasion, it has the right and duty to defend its territory and people,” DeSantis said in a statement.
