ORLANDO, Fla. – A tourist visiting Magic Kingdom was arrested after “forcefully snatching” Mickey ears from a woman’s head because he thought the hat belonged to his daughter, according to an arrest affidavit from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The Illinois man was arrested on Dec. 14. News 6 is not naming or showing the man, following our crime coverage guidelines that consider the threat or impact of an incident.

Prosecutors filed a notice at the end of March, dropping the charges against the man.

“From the investigation which has been made, it is the opinion of the writer that this case is not suitable for prosecution,” the notice reads.

According to the affidavit, the woman told deputies she was getting off a ride at Magic Kingdom with her child and husband when she heard a man yelling behind her. The woman said she didn’t realize he was yelling at her when he snatched the hat from her head.

The woman said she bought the hat a few years ago at an outlet store, but the man argued that it belonged to his daughter, the affidavit stated.

The man told deputies he got off a ride with his daughter, who asked to return to the Buzz Lightyear attraction because she thought she left her Mickey ears there, the affidavit shows. They went back to the ride when the man said he noticed the woman wearing the same style hat as the one his daughter lost, deputies said.

The man snatched the hat off the woman’s head before her husband intervened, officials said.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
