Upon arrival, they found a 17-year-old — identified as Carlos Medina — who had been shot multiple times just outside the nearby apartment complex, the release says.
Despite officers rendering aid and Medina being taken to the hospital, he ultimately died from him injuries, according to the police department.

Investigators said that another underage victim was discovered with gunshot wounds several blocks away, and a firearm was found nearby. That teen was taken to a local hospital, where he was admitted in stable condition, police explained.
Following an investigation, detectives said that the victim had been “hanging out with a group of juveniles,” heading from the Charleston on 66 apartment complex toward a local trampoline park along 66th Street.
Traveling with the group was a 15-year-old girl — identified by police as Medina’s sister — and a 15-year-old boy, police said. News 6 has chosen not to reveal their names at this time.
“(The girl) was providing her brother Carlos and (the boy) information about the group of juveniles and where they were, where they were moving from, in an attempt to set up a robbery,” Largo Police Chief Mike Loux said on Wednesday.
Loux added that the goal was to have Medina and the 15-year-old boy rob the victim of the handgun he was carrying.
However, the attempted robbery ended in a shootout, which left both Medina and the victim injured, Loux explained.
As a result, the sister was arrested and faces a charge of second-degree murder in her brother’s death, according to the police department.
In addition, the 15-year-old boy faces charges of second-degree murder in Medina’s death and attempted first-degree murder.
According to Loux, investigators are still trying to determine whether the firearms used in this incident were stolen.
