‘They didn’t help him:’ 17-year-old shot, killed in Sanford

Police ID victim as Sadarion Cosby

SANFORD, Fla. – A 17-year-old was shot and killed Tuesday night in Sanford, police said.

The fatal shooting happened around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Ellen Place and Scott Drive.

Sanford police said Sadarion Cosby was taken to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital with a gunshot wound to his abdomen and died a short time later.

According to police, Cosby and three unidentified individuals approached a parked car with unknown occupants inside and shots were fired.

The driver then sped off, according to police, who said two people with Cosby ran away. The other person assisted Cosby to a nearby house before running away, police said.

Occupants of the home drove Cosby to the hospital, police said.

Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith said called out Cosby’s “friends” after the shooting.

“A 17-year-old lost his life. His ‘friends,’ and I use that term loosely, ran (away) rather than staying and helping him. They didn’t help him get the emergency medical attention he needed, nor stay to assist law enforcement identify and locate the person(s) who took his life. Unacceptable.”

The police department shared the following image of a vehicle — described as a dark-in-color KIA K5 sedan — stating it was related to the homicide:

No other details about the shooting have been released.
