Victim’s family no longer cooperating with Seminole County carjacking investigation, sheriff says

Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas was carjacked on April 11

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Miguel Aguasvivas, the husband of the victim in the deadly carjacking in Winter Springs, has stopped cooperating with the investigation into his wife’s death, according to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.

At a news conference on Tuesday, Sheriff Dennis Lemma said Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas’ husband is “no longer cooperating” and her brother — only identified as Luis at this point — “has been crossed up in multiple lies with our detectives.”

“To say that they’re cooperating would not be accurate,” Lemma said.

Initially, Miguel Aguasvivas told investigators that his wife was coming to Central Florida to visit family, but Lemma said that two relatives investigators were able to locate in the area said they were not expecting a visit from Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas.

At a news conference on April 19, Lemma said “Miguel had provided his phone and was cooperative, but we thought that there was a lot of details that he was leaving out.”

Officials said that Luis was also providing information to investigators and turned his phone over for a forensic examination.

Lemma said that Luis told officials that he was conducting his own investigation into his sister’s death and that he reached out from a computer that was connected to an iPhone, and through iCloud account, found a contact that looked like it was the last person Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas spoke to.

That person, 27-year-old Giovany Crespo Hernandez, has since been arrested and booked into the Seminole County jail on drug charges.

It was later learned that Miguel Aguasvivas and Luis reached out to a mutual childhood friend, who happens to be the wife of an Orange County deputy, while on the way to meet investigators in Seminole County.

That deputy, identified as Francisco Estrella Chicon, is accused of then calling Seminole County deputies, giving a false name and identifying himself as a detective with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office wanting to get information about this case.

While searching Miguel Aguasvivas’ phone, investigators discovered that Estrella Chicon and Miguel Aguasvivas had been sharing information about that detective, and Estrella Chicon had shared a video recording of their conversation with Miguel Aguasvivas, investigators said.

Estrella Chicon was arrested on charges of interception of wire, oral or electronic communication; disclosure of wire, oral or electronic communication; disclosure or use of confidential criminal justice information; unlawful use of a two-way communication device; accessing computer or electronic devices without authorization or exceeding authorization.

While Lemma has not called Miguel Aguasvivas or Luis suspects or said that they are connected in any way to Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas’ death, he did say “that will be a part of the investigation that’s ongoing. We’ll continue to look at that.”
