WEBSTER, Fla. – Sumter County leaders approved a plan for a new resort in Sumter County this week, provided certain conditions are met.
The treehouse resort would be located in an agricultural area near Webster, near State Road 471 and County Road 774.

The developers of the project want to build up to 10 treehouses for 46 guests. The resort would have a pool, gym, pickleball court and a dog park.
The developers said they would leave as much of the natural plants and trees as possible, and create a buffer zone for noise and a privacy fence.
However, county staff and the planning and zoning special master recommended that county commissioners reject the project.
They said the area wasn’t zoned for that kind of development, it’s outside the Urban Development Boundary. They’re also concerned that part of the property is within a 100-year flood zone, and that a commercial business might disturb nearby residents.
County commissioners approved the project on a 4 to 1 vote. A spokesman for the county commission said the developers would have to meet several conditions moving forward.
There is no word on when construction on this treehouse resort might begin.
