MONTVERDE, Fla. – Moving to a big city with hundreds of thousands of people can leave you feeling like a drop of water in a large bucket, but people in the small town of Montverde say they are intentional about getting to know their neighbors.
News 6 caught up with the mayor and others hanging out at the Spring Concert Series in Kirk Park to learn more about the community.
Mayor Joe Wynkoop said the event has been going on for about 20 of the last 30 years he has lived in Montverde.

Damini Delisle recently moved to the area.
She said she has started a garden and has met a few neighbors by just being outside and sharing gardening tips. When she heard people would be gathering for the Spring Concert Series, she was excited to join her husband and meet new people.
“These are the events that bring the whole community together (...) I come from India and for us, community is a very important part of your life,” Delisle told News 6.
Patrick Boyken agreed.
“We got new residents and this is a nice way to get them acclimated into the community,” he said.
If the tradition continues, the community will be gathering like this for years to come, but with a few upgrades.
Musician David Runde said, “They’re building a brand-new stage right here, that’s what that empty space is. That just means they are going to have more entertainment and more work for us hopefully.”

Montverde leaders say the next big event they will be hosting at Kirk Park is their popular Montverde Day where music acts, athletes and food vendors come out to celebrate the town.
Even before that, News 6 will be in Montverde hosting WKMG Hits the Road from Kirk Park on Wednesday, May 15 from 4-7 p.m.
