Florida deputy accused of holding woman against her will, demanding sex act inside marked cruiser

Volusia Deputy Stephen Corbin arrested in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A Volusia sheriff’s deputy was arrested on allegations of holding a woman against her will inside a marked patrol car and demanding a sex act.

Daytona Beach police said Stephen Corbin was arrested Wednesday evening on charges of bribery, battery, false imprisonment and solicitation to commit prostitution.

Police said the alleged incident happened Monday in the South Ridgewood corridor of the city. According to police, the woman said she was approached by a white man, later identified as Corbin, who was wearing plain clothes and driving a marked Volusia sheriff’s cruiser.

The woman said Corbin held her against her will and said he would arrest her if she did not engage in a sexual act, according to police.

Officials said the woman was “able to negotiate release from the vehicle” and called the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Police investigated the allegations and said evidence uncovered that Corbin assaulted a second victim earlier in the day.

Corbin, hired as a Volusia deputy in May 2015, was arrested and was being held without bond. A judge later set his bond at $90,000.

Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood posted on Facebook that the incident tarnishes the reputation of his office.

Chitwood said Corbin tendered his resignation after the process of terminating his employment began.

“Like any profession, ours hires from the human race. We don’t have the technology to detect each person’s character flaws, assess their integrity or predict all their future conduct,” Chitwood said. “We do have a responsibility to act decisively when someone’s character falls short of the public’s expectations. This person will not be a deputy sheriff in our community, and his badge will be melted down so it won’t represent this agency in the future.”
