BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Friday night’s SpaceX rocket launch gave viewers something a little extra to enjoy: “space jellyfish.”
SpaceX posted a photo on X after the launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station of the phenomenon. The effect is caused when light reflects off the rocket’s exhaust plume in the atmosphere amid the evening hours after sunset. It creates a bulb-like effect in the sky, kind of like a jellyfish.
