ORLANDO, Fla. – Changes to Disney’s Disability Accessibility Services went into effect Monday.

Here is what Disney’s website describes the services as:

  • DAS is intended to accommodate only those Guests who, due to a developmental disability like autism or similar disorder, are unable to wait in a conventional queue for an extended period of time.
  • DAS doesn’t provide immediate access to experiences, but rather allows Guests to request a return time for a specific experience that is comparable to the current standby wait.
  • The Guest for which DAS is being requested must be present during registration and must experience the attraction when redeeming a DAS return time at Walt Disney World theme parks.

The new DAS limits the DAS party size to immediate family members or no more than four guests.

Another notable change, DAS in-person registration will no longer be available at Walt Disney World guest relations locations starting May 20. Instead, guests can register via live video chat with a Cast Member to determine eligibility up to 30 days in advance of a park visit. If DAS is provided, the guest with a disability (or a parent/guardian) will participate in the registration process.

After you register and enter the theme park, you can request your first return time.

DAS is valid for “the length of the ticket or up to 120 days, whichever is shorter. Once the service has elapsed, Guests need to re-register for the program,” the website reads.

“If it is determined that any of the statements a Guest made in the process of obtaining DAS are not true, the Guest will be permanently barred from entering Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort, and any previously purchased Annual Passes, Magic Key passes, tickets and other park products and services will be forfeited and not refunded.”

News 6′s Ezzy Castro last month spoke to theme park expert and president of TouringPlans.com, Len Testa who explained the amount of people who use the system has tripled over the last five years.
