HOLLY HILL, Fla. – A male was shot and killed by a Holly Hill police officer after a call to 911 said he had a knife and was threatening to stab someone, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
Police were called to an apartment at 467 Ridgewood Ave. Tuesday evening, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office.
Investigators said the caller told them a male with a steak knife was threatening to hurt himself and others inside the apartment. The caller said he had made threats to kill her in the past and was about to stab someone, according to the post.
The sheriff’s office said a responding officer reported having the male at gunpoint around 5:26 p.m. and then reported shots fired moments later.
Investigators said the male died at the scene. No one else was hurt.
The sheriff’s office is assisting the Holly Hill Police Department following a series of resignations amid allegations of “inappropriate incidents,” which is why the office is releasing information on the shooting.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
