Longwood’s Bradlee-McIntyre House Museum in need of repair

Historic home needs new roof, other fixes

Guests from near and far come to Warren Avenue in Longwood to look at the historic nearly 140-year-old Bradlee-McIntyre House Museum.

“Breakfast and lunch were served like a buffet. Every night you had a formal dinner. You would be wearing a formal tuxedo,” Docent Kathy Goshen said.

Goshen has given tours at the Historic Landmark for 12 years. She said the home’s vintage artifacts and rich history are the pride of the Longwood community.

“We have an impact on the community simply because I think it represents their history,” Goshen said.

However to keep this home’s legacy alive. Longwood Historic Society Treasurer Tom Redditt said it’ll need a new roof.

“The upper roof was put on around 2000. It’s about 25 years. It’s a shingle roof so obviously it seen its better days and it’s starting to go,” Reddit said.

Redditt said the replacement roof will cost around $35,000. The house is also in need of other repairs as well.

“The porch needs to be repaired. It’s got some rotted boards and so forth. That’s another expense we need,” he said.

Redditt said it cost thousands to preserve the Bradlee-McIntyre House Museum, but it’s well worth it to keep it around for future generations.

The organization hosts tours on Wednesdays and Sundays as well as fundraisers like its recent poker tournament to help out. For more information, click here.
