Teen accused of hiding rifle under shirt after running from Marion County traffic stop

16-year-old booked into jail on no bond

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A teen faces several charges after Marion County deputies said he ran off from a car involved in a traffic stop then tried to hide in store with a rifle under his shirt on Monday afternoon.

According to an arrest affidavit, a deputy saw a speeding Ford Focus in a neighborhood. Investigators said the car also had a broken brake light and possible window tint violation around 4:54 p.m. “in a residential area.”

Deputies said the car went south on Cedar Road and turned on Bahia Road while they tried to catch up.

The car stopped in front of a Silver Springs Family Dollar store and the 16-year-old passenger went inside, records show.

Body-camera video shows, once the teen was located inside the store, there was a struggle over a rifle the boy had hidden under his shirt. The video can be seen in the media player above. A word of warning, the video contains strong language and viewer discretion is advised.

Deputies said they also found drugs inside the car the boy had run from.

The teen faces several charges in the incident including possession of a firearm by a delinquent felon, possession of a short-barreled rifle, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of drugs with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana more than 20 grams, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on an officer and resisting without violence.

The teen was booked into the Marion County jail with no bond.
