Too early for yard work? Tavares adjusts nuisance noise hours

Rule change prohibit use of certain equipment from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

TAVERES. Fla. – What time are you allowed to do yard work in Central Florida? It’s a question that comes up every so often, especially after you hear your neighbor fire up the leaf blower on a weekend morning before breakfast.

This week, the city of Tavares adjusted the prohibited hours of operation for blowers, outdoor blower vacuums and similar tools. It’s now against the rules to operate those machines between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. the following day.

Previously, the hours were between 11:00 p.m. And 5:00 a.m.

News 6 reached out to the city and asked about the updated ordinance. A spokesperson said the change was just “simple housekeeping.”

The spokesperson shared the following statement explaining the adjustment:

“There were inconsistencies with the city’s nuisance noise code times; this ordinance made the time frame consistent and unified with the rest of the city ordinances.”

If you don’t follow the rules, there are consequences. A first offense will cost you $25. Any time after that will cost you $50.
