Woman’s car stolen, crashed into Florida state trooper days after she made first payment

Florida Highway Patrol still looking for 4 people who ran from stolen car

COCOA, Fla. – A Titusville woman says she needs help buying another car after hers was stolen. Florida Highway Patrol said four people ran away when the stolen car crashed into a telephone pole and a state trooper in pursuit last week.

Heather Jordan told News 6′s James Sparvero she had just bought the 2016 Nissan Altima and made her first payment when her new car was stolen from her driveway.

Jordan said she forgot to lock her doors.

“My old car would automatically lock when I got out of it and remove the keys,” Jordan said. “It’s a habit I hadn’t broken yet.”

That was June 17.

Then, last Friday while state troopers were looking for Jordan’s car, a photograph from Pineda and Allen streets in Cocoa showed the driver crashed into a state trooper and a telephone pole.

FHP said the trooper was hurt while the four people in Jordan’s car got away.

“All four of them escaped and the trooper was sent out for medical care, luckily OK,” Jordan said.

She told Sparvero she was surprised the thieves were able to walk away.

“The front end of my car, driver’s side, is completely demolished,” Jordan said. “The fact that they not only got out, but fled, I don’t know how.”

When asked how she’s holding up without her own car now, Jordan said it’s been a struggle.

“It’ll get figured out. It always does, but yeah, it’s sad,” she said.

And when asked what she would tell the people who stole and crashed her car, Jordan had a direct message.

“Don’t take and destroy someone else’s property,” she said. “That’s how I get my kids to athletics and school functions. That’s how I get myself to and from work. It is quite literally my livelihood.”

Jordan’s family started a GoFundMe to help her buy another car.

The FHP on Monday didn’t share an update on the search for the thieves.

Troopers are asking anyone with information to contact FHP or Crimeline.
