‘Really convenient:’ Tourists test out e-scooter pilot program on International Drive in Orange County

200 electric scooters, bicycles available

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – There’s a new way to get around the tourist district. Last week, leaders in Orange County announced electric scooters are coming to International Drive.

News 6 on Thursday spoke to tourists who had already used them.

“It’s just really convenient like it takes forever to walk up and down but yeah really convenient,” Peter Lindsey said.

Lindsey visited Orlando from Australia and said he rented the Lime e-scooter right outside his hotel on International Drive and decided to ride it to grab some coffee.

" It’s just really convenient like it takes forever to walk up and down but yeah really convenient,” Lindsey said.

About 200 electric scooters and bicycles are now available on the strip between Carrier Drive and Destination Parkway thanks to a pilot program from Orange County Public Works.

“As a passionate advocate of the micromobility program, I am thrilled to witness its soft launch in Orange County,” Orange County Project Coordinator Luz Munoz said.

Lime and Bird are the two vendors being used for the program.

According to the county, adults over 18 will be able to rent and ride the scooters.

After a year of the pilot program, county commissioners are set to decide whether to expand the program to other parts of the county.
