LADY LAKE, Fla. – Lake Lake police are looking for a suspect who allegedly shot at people on a basketball court Thursday during an altercation.

Officers responded around 7:30 p.m. to the athletic complex on Guava Street, the Lady Lake Police Department said in a news release.

The suspect — described as a light-skinned Black male with locs and a red tattoo behind his ear — fired toward people on the basketball courts while he was leaving, the release states. He had retrieved a handgun from a white four-door sedan, possibly a Hyundai, police said.

Lady Lake police searched the area with help from Fruitland Park officers and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, yet the search for the suspect and his vehicle was ongoing at the time of this report.

“Hundreds of people — including youth sports teams, families, and seniors — enjoy our athletic fields and parks every week without issue,” Chief Steve Hunt said in a statement. “Lady Lake police will continue to work to ensure our parks remain safe for everyone.”

Anyone with information in the shooting is urged to contact Detective Jim Dunagan by calling 352-751-1565 or emailing jdunagan@ladylake.org.
