Golf cart charger may be factor in fire at a Brevard County home, officials say

BAREFOOT BAY, Fla. – Neighbors near a home in Brevard County say they are thankful everyone is safe after a fire Friday.

The Brevard County Fire Rescue says the fire broke out in the 700 block of Hyacinth Circle in Barefoot Bay, near Sebastian. Crews say the fire happened “after plugging in a golf cart charger.”

The fire caused serious damage to one home and minor damage to a nearby home. One person was treated for minor burns.

Neighbors Connie and Joel Marks reacted to the fire that caused damage to the home.

“We walked down here and the smell, you could smell it a block away. You can smell the burning,” said Connie Marks.

“We are glad everybody is okay, so that’s fortunate. Seems like the fire department got here at a pretty quick time, otherwise there definitely would have been more damage,” said Joel Marks.

The fire marshal’s office will now work to determine an exact cause.
