Lake County hiring 100 teachers, 40 assistants, 20 bus drivers

Job fair held at Tavares High School

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – With the first day of school right around the corner, the Lake County School district is working to get results, holding a massive job fair Wednesday at Tavares High School.

Brian Myers was one of the many who showed up the job fair in hopes of landing a job as a substitute teacher.

“This seems like a great opportunity for me to expand my career. Like I said, I’ve been doing substitute teaching for the last five to six years,” Myers explained.

The district is looking to hire nearly 100 teachers, 40 teacher assistants and 20 bus drivers.

Mikela Melton said she heard about the job fair on the county’s website.

“I was interested in looking for something in the mental health field but also working with schools,” Mikela Melton said.

The district is also looking to fill openings for other positions, including food service assistants, mechanics, building service technicians and electricians.

“This time of the school year, we are about on par from where we’ve been in the past, in terms of vacancies, so we know in the next two to three weeks that our amazing school leaders will continue to recruit the very best teachers and staff,” Superintendent Diane Kornegay said.
