The nationwide average price for regular gasoline reached an all-time high of $5.02 per gallon average just over two years ago, on June 14, 2022. While the price has dropped significantly from the peak, the current average of $3.49 a gallon (as of June 26, 2024) can still cost you a lot if you log a lot of miles. (Per AAA, the current national average price for midgrade fuel is $3.95, for premium, $4.29; and for diesel, $3.81.)
