74-year-old man dead in Deltona house fire

Fire crews respond to 2674 Howland Blvd.

DELTONA, Fla. – A man was pronounced dead after being found in a burning house early Sunday in Deltona, according to Fire Chief Bill Snyder and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The Deltona Fire Department responded shortly after 1 a.m. to 2674 Howland Blvd., where units arrived to see the house was fully engulfed with flames that were visible through its roof, Snyder told News 6.

As units started knocking down the fire and pushing their way in, they found the victim in the house and removed him from the burning structure, the fire chief said.

The victim was the only person inside of the house, according to Snyder. The sheriff’s office later Sunday identified the victim as a 74-year-old man who firefighters had found unresponsive in the home’s bathroom.

First responders attempted life-saving measures on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene around 1:41 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.

The State Fire Marshal was said to be at the scene investigating the cause of the fire at the time of this report. According to the sheriff’s office, detectives did not observe any obvious indications of foul play or suspicious circumstances.
