VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 39-year-old Lake Helen woman was likely electrocuted Friday in an accident at her home, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives responded to Halifax Hospital in Deltona that evening to conduct a death investigation, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Initial information indicated the woman and her husband were working in their barn during heavy rain when her husband heard her cry out and turned to find that she was holding onto a metal drum fan while seemingly being electrocuted, the statement reads. The husband kicked the fan away and performed CPR until emergency medical units arrived on scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives reportedly noted puddles of water in the barn and a tattered, worn power cable next to the fan.

The investigation was ongoing at the time of this writing and the official cause of the woman’s death is pending word from the Medical Examiner’s Office, according to the statement.
