Whiskey maker discusses success during Black Business Month

Chima Burey joins Breakfast with Bridgett

ORLANDO, Fla. – August is Black Business Month and black-owned businesses make up just about 10% of all American businesses.

Wednesday on Breakfast with Bridgett, the co-founder of Florida-based Duke & Dame Salted Caramel Whiskey. Chima Burey talked about the journey from a career in finance on Wall Street to founding a flavored whiskey business 6 years ago.

Burey says when he and Amani Macaulay started their company, one hurdle was finding or getting expert advice and guidance from established brands. That’s why he says he pays it forward now.

“That’s a big part of our journey as well. One of the things we wanted was to have a channel or avenue to have some questions answered. And we provide that for new and upcoming companies now. So on my calendar, quarterly I have two or three or four different brands, that I check or we talk about different things we embarked on when we first started giving them advice on how to overcome some of the initial hurdles that we had. Paying it forward is something we love to do be that for other brands,” Burey said.
