News 6, Texas partner donate to each other’s Little League teams after friendly wager

Florida will face Chinese Taipei in the LLWS championship game on Sunday

WILLIAMSPORT, Penn. – Ahead of Saturday’s final between Lake Mary, Florida and Boerne, Texas, News 6 placed a wager against its Texas partner, KSAT – and now it’s time to collect.

Lake Mary defeated Boerne 10-7 on Saturday afternoon in a back-and-forth game that saw the Florida team take home the U.S. championship.

The wager: If the Lake Mary All-Stars come out on top, KSAT has promised to donate $1,000 to the Florida team. But if Boerne’s Little League team manages to win, News 6 will instead give $1,000 to them.

So on Saturday, News 6 weekend anchor Erik von Ancken had a video call with KSAT weekend anchor Courtney Friedman to make good on the bet.

After Friedman announced the $1,000 donation to the Lake Mary All-Stars, von Ancken said – in a surprise twist – that News 6 will be investing in the Boerne team, as well.

“We here at WKMG News 6 in Orlando, we are gonna give a thousand bucks also. Forget the bet, we’re going to give $1,000 to the team in Boerne because we think they earned it too,” von Ancken said.

“We can’t want to tell the team about this,” Friedman replied.
