Osceola County celebrates completion of phase 1 Simpson Road project

Improvement completion expected in 2027

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – If you drive on Simpson Road in Osceola County, you know it can get busy but drivers can now look forward to some new improvements.

On Wednesday, county leaders celebrated the completion of Phase 1 of improvements to Simpson Road between East Osceola Parkway and Boggy Creek Road.

The one-and-a-half-mile stretch expands the road from two to four lanes to try and help ease traffic in that area.

“The goal is not only to ease the traffic congestion but also to make it safer. You see now it’s divided. We now have 10-foot sidewalks on both sides of the road,” Commissioner Viviana Janer said.

Janer explained to News 6′s Ezzy Castro that phase 1 of the improvements had actually been completed four months ahead of schedule.

With the help of the Florida Department of Transportation, the county received a $14 million grant for the project.

Earlier this year, News 6 Investigator Mike DeForest highlighted several road improvement projects across Osceola County including widening Neptune Road and Poinciana Boulevard.

“We are working with them on John Young Parkway and Poinciana. We are working on the Poinciana connector,” said Jack Adkins.

Adkins is the Director of Transportation Development for the Florida Department of Transportation District 5.

The county said improvements to Simpson Road between Marisol Loop and East Osceola Parkway are expected to be finished by early 2027.

“We appreciate the partnership with the county and being able to do these important projects,” Adkins said.
