MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A man hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday afternoon after being shot not far from Ocala has died, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded just before 5 p.m. to a shooting reported out of the 4900 block of NW 56th terrace, where they located the man shot, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
The deputies immediately provided medical care, the statement reads, adding the sheriff’s office’s Major Crimes detectives have since taken over the investigation and a suspect is currently in custody.
The sheriff’s office on Thursday said the victim, identified as 44-year-old Tony Lee Diamond, died at the hospital.
