SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Two boys, ages 15 and 17, have been indicted on attempted robbery and first-degree murder charges in the fatal shooting of a man who Sanford police say was killed while trying to sell a pair of headphones in July.

Dra’shawn Williams, 15, and William Smith, 17, were indicted by a Seminole County grand jury and will be prosecuted as adults in what police called the “senseless” shooting death of 22-year-old Brandon Leo on July 20.

Leo was found shot dead in a pickup truck which was located partially-submerged in a retention pond as Sanford police responded around 9:30 p.m. to a call of shots fired along West 3rd Street near Pomegranate Avenue.

Sanford police said Leo pulled up to a home for the purpose of selling a pair of headphones and was waiting in his pickup truck in the driveway. Leo put the vehicle in reverse and began backing out of the driveway as he was approached by two individuals, at which point several shots were fired, according to the police department’s initial reporting.

Williams was arrested Aug. 21 and Smith was arrested on Aug. 27, records show.

News 6 is naming and showing Williams and Smith due to the circumstances of the case.
