LAKELAND, Fla. – While the hospital was the first choice, a Polk County couple chose an unplanned birthing center that ended up being a good alternative.

According to Polk County Sheriff’s Office’s social media posts, Micah and Diam were on their way to the hospital around 7 a.m. on Saturday so Diam could give birth to their child. However, the baby couldn’t wait, so Micah pulled into the parking lot at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Southwest District Office.

Sgt. Lynch saw the vehicle parked outside of the substation, and when he approached, the new dad turned to him holding a baby girl. Deputies quickly radioed in Polk County Fire Rescue and provided mom with assistance and quilts that were donated by the community.

After mom and baby were taken to the hospital, deputies from the southwest district visited the family and showered them with newborn essentials including a $100 gift card and a talking Sheriff Grady Judd doll.
