MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Following Hurricane Helene, Marion County Utilities issued a precautionary boil water notice on Friday, Sept. 27 due to power outages in the area.

Water that is intended to be consumed must be boiled for at least one minute, the notice advises. This includes water used for drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth.

Water intended for other uses such as laundry, bathing, or showering does not need to be boiled.

As an alternative to boiling water, the notice states residents in the affected areas may use bottled water.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection will continue to monitor the quality of the Marion County water and update residents when the notice is lifted.

To stay up to date on the status of the notice, Marion County Utilities recommends that customers contact their customer service team at 352-307-6000 during regular business hours to verify the accuracy of their account number.

A listing of Utilities’ annual inspections from 2012 to 2022 can be viewed on their website under the “My Water” tab.
