SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Preps for Hurricane Milton are underway as sandbag sites have already opened, or are preparing to open, across Central Florida.
Over in Seminole County, sandbag sites were open on Sunday including Eastmonte Park in Altamonte Springs and Central Winds Park in Winter Springs.
Nate Dorr was picking up sandbags in Winter Springs on Sunday. He said they’re taking extra steps to be prepared this time around.
“We got kind of damaged during Hurricane Ian, so we’re just making sure that we get a little bit more precautious and making sure all the sandbags are at our doorstep, garage, that’s most of the preparation we’re going to do,” Dorr said.

Malorie Newhouse was also at Central Winds Park on Sunday preparing for Milton’s arrival.
“So even with a little bit of rain, our windows kind of flood a little bit so we’re just preparing for the worst, especially because yesterday in the morning it was (forecast to be) a Cat 2 I think and then it was a Cat 3,” Milton said. “Living in Florida all of my life everything changes really quickly so you’ve got to be prepared.”
Over in Altamonte Springs, people were also picking up sandbags at Eastmonte Park.
One resident, Liam, was helping out his mom on Sunday, and said picking up extra groceries is also on their storm prep checklist.
“I think we’re just going to put sandbags on our back porch because it’s going to flood anyways, but we’re just doing it to help out her grandma,” Liam said. “But we’re going to get, like, groceries later and stuff in case it’s really bad.”
John Horton-Rutledge said they’ve never done sandbags until they realized their backyard floods.
“So now we’re going to prepare and then we’re getting our mother also — our mother-in-law is going to be going down and I’ll fill her up too,” Horton-Rutledge said.
