POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Milton couldn’t stop the stork for one expectant Central Florida family.
The storm made landfall as a major Category 3 hurricane Wednesday night. As it swept across Polk County during the overnight hours, deputies received a call around 3 a.m. Thursday about a woman going into labor.

Due to Milton’s high winds, ambulances were unable to transport people. So, Polk deputies responded to the home to meet Zenia and Javier and take the expecting parents to the hospital.

Deputy Calderin assisted Zenia and Javier into a patrol car while a relative joined deputies Jones and Goolsby in another car, the sheriff’s office said on social media.
After the storm passed, the deputies went back to the hospital later in the day and learned that Zenia had given birth to a baby girl named Jade at about 1:30 p.m.
On Thursday, October 10th, at around 3:07 am, we received a 911 call about a young pregnant woman going into labor....while Hurricane Milton was still beating down on Polk County.
