DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Despite impacts from Hurricane Milton, the 32nd annual Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach is set to kick off this week, according to Daytona Beach officials.

The event typically brings thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts to Volusia County. Biketoberfest is scheduled to kick off Thursday and run through Sunday.

The Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau said restaurants, event facilities and more are preparing to host part of the four-day schedule.

“The Daytona Beach area and its community have been impacted by the recent storm, some areas more than others,” Lori Campbell Baker, executive director of the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, said in a statement. “The destination is working around the clock and our residents and municipalities are making significant progress.

Local businesses are open and more continue to open as power is restored and water levels recede after the hurricane, according to Daytona Beach.

“We encourage visitors to be thoughtful of our neighbors during the event and avoid driving through areas that have been impacted. Please be mindful of areas that may contain storm debris and/or inoperable traffic lights, and ride with extra care during your stay,” Baker said in a release.

According to Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, venues such as the world-famous Main Street, Daytona International Speedway, Teddy Morse’s Harley-Davidson Destination Daytona, Iron Horse Saloon, Beaver Bar and local motorcycle dealerships are moving forward with planned events.

Over the weekend, Volusia County officials warned residents and visitors to stay off the beaches due to debris on the beach and in the water. Due to high tide, Volusia County’s Coastal Division has not been able to start removing the debris.

According to the website DaytonaBikeWeek, the event started in 1992 and was called the Daytona Fall Tour. In 1993, it started to be called Biketoberfest and is now known as the “little brother” of the spring Daytona Beach Bike Week event.

Daytona Beach Bike Week is scheduled next year from Feb. 28 through March 9.
