Local surgeon gives insight to new FDA guidelines for mammograms

Dr. Jeffery Smith, Orlando Health surgeon joins Breakfast with Bridgett

ORLANDO, Fla. – Do you know how often you should have a mammogram? Is it once a year or every two years? New updates to mammogram guidelines from the FDA can help determine how how often you need one as well as the types of tests you might need.

Tuesday on Breakfast with Bridgett, a surgical oncologist with Orlando Health Cancer Institute shared more insight about the updates and how they could apply to you.

The FDA now recommends mammograms every two years for women with low breast cancer risk starting at age 40. But Dr. Jeffrey Smith says patients with moderate or higher risk factors will still need more frequent screenings.
