ORLANDO, Fla. – Every October, the same dilemma rolls around. Scary or funny? Character or animal? Trendy or unique? How will you make this year yours with the perfect Halloween costume?

While the haunted houses and the flickering jack-o’-lanterns might give you a fright, the real scare is not being able to find a costume in time for the 31st.

Don’t fret! News 6 has you covered.

Ditch the basic costumes and represent your home state with these Central Florida-themed Halloween costumes.

Single Costumes

An Orange

Represent Florida by dressing as the state fruit. This costume is equal parts simple and sweet. Piece together an orange outfit and throw on a green hat or headband.

Sunshine

We are called the “Sunshine State” for a reason. Embrace the Florida heat and be a ray of sunshine this Halloween by piecing together a yellow outfit with a sunray headband.

SpaceX Rocket

Central Florida is well known for its booming space scene. Make your costume out of this world by dressing as a SpaceX rocket. Buy a rocket costume or make your own with cardboard and paint. Brand your rocket with the SpaceX’s signature logo.

I-4 Eyesore

While this costume may take a little more effort to put together, any Central Florida resident is bound to have a laugh at the infamous Altamonte Springs building that will forever be under construction. Find cardboard boxes to recreate the structure of the building and paint it blue for the glass design.

Mosquito

Turn the tables on Florida’s pesky creatures by dressing as a mosquito. Buzz around in brown or black clothing with antennas and bugeyes. Top off the outfit with bug wings.

Duo Costumes

Mickey and Minnie Mouse

Whether you are a Florida native or from out of the state, often the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the state is Disney. Dress as Orlando’s unofficial mascots by combining their staple red shorts and skirt, a black bodysuit and mouse ears.

Swan Boat and Lake Eola

Lake Eola is often considered the heart of Orlando and its swan boat activity is a popular one in the community. Turn the Central Florida landmark into a couples costume by dressing as a white swan and a blue lake.

Alligator and Swamp

Bring the Everglades to the Halloween function. This costume is sure to give your party guests a fright when they come face to face with a real Florida gator emerging from its swamp. Wear a camouflage suit covered in moss to create the swamp and an alligator onesie for the reptile.

Publix Employee and Pub Sub

Publix has been Florida’s reliable grocery store for nearly a century. Rep the shop’s signature lime green uniform and bring along a partner dressed as a sandwich to be your pub sub.

I-4 Traffic

Stuck in traffic? We’ve all been there. Encompass one of Central Florida’s busiest highways by dressing as a road and a car.

Group Costumes

UCF’s Knightro, Knugget and Citronaut

Get in the gameday spirit and support Florida’s largest university by dressing as its three mascots. If you are dressing as Knightro, don’t forget your knight’s sword. For Knugget, find a horse costume and drape it in UCF’s signature emblem. To recreate Citronaut, find an orange costume and a green hat.

Disney, Universal and SeaWorld

Central Florida is a hub for tourism and popular theme parks. Represent your favorite park by dressing in park merchandise. These costumes can include but are not limited to Disney, Universal and SeaWorld. If your friend group needs extra costumes, throw in Busch Gardens, Legoland and Gatorland.

Sun, Water and Sand

Recreate Florida’s sandy beaches by dressing as sun, water and sand. Simply put together an all-yellow outfit to create the sun, wear all blue for the ocean and tan for the sand.

Tourist, Disney Adult and Florida Man

There are three species of Floridians: The tourist, the Disney adult and the infamous Florida man. Turn your friend group into true Florida vacationers with tacky tourist attire such as Hawaiian shirts, sandals and shades. With Central Florida’s tourist scene comes Disney; the magical theme parks are not just for kids as many Florida adults enjoy collecting merchandise and visiting them on a regular basis, so deck yourself out in Mickey ears, park pins and all the Disney attire you can find. The third part of this group costume encapsulates Florida’s ability to make news headlines. Whether they’re wrestling alligators or chasing hurricanes, the Florida man is well known across the country.
