Operation Blue Roof and FEMA offer in-person services in Volusia County for Hurricane Milton assistance

Teams from US Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA setting up in Orange City

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – If you need help in Volusia County applying for Operation Blue Roof or FEMA assistance after Hurricane Milton, representatives for each service will be available to help this Friday.

Teams from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of Lowe’s at 901 Saxon Blvd. in Orange City. Operation Blue Roof is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for FEMA.

Operation Blue Roof is a free Florida program that offers protection for storm-damaged roofs, which became available earlier this month to residents in Central Florida counties impacted by Milton.

Operation Blue Roof is available for residents in Brevard, Citrus, Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Manatee, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Lucie, Sumter and Volusia counties to apply for assistance. If you require assistance, you can apply online at www.blueroof.gov or by calling 888-ROOF-BLU (888-766-3258) through Thursday, Nov. 14.

The program offers “fiber-reinforced, industrial-strength sheeting to protect storm-damaged roofs until homeowners can make permanent repairs.”

FEMA representatives will help residents complete applications for federal aid.

“This federal assistance can cover a range of needs, including temporary housing, home repairs, and other essential disaster-related expenses,” a release said.

If you can’t make it out there in person, you can apply online at www.disasterassistance.gov, via the FEMA mobile app, or by calling 800-621-3362.
