KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando and Osceola County broke ground on a new home in Kissimmee Friday morning, as part of their annual “Home for the Holidays” build. This year, future homeowners Gloria and Francisco are the focus of this heartwarming project. Volunteers for Habitat staff are working together to ensure that Gloria and Francisco’s family can celebrate the season in a safe, affordable home they can call their own.

“I don’t even know what to say; we are so excited,” said Gloria. “This means so much for me and my family!”

The build underscores Habitat’s mission to create stable housing for families and strengthen the community.  Catherine Steck McManus is the president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando and Osceola County. She says they hope to be a cornerstone for the community.

“It’s really important for us to ensure everyone is informed, empowered and engaged,” said McManus. “You do not have to be purchasing a home from Habitat for Humanity to participate in our courses. We’re really encouraging everyone to do that.”

It is the very first home to be built in Osceola County for the organization. It is in partnership with local construction powerhouse Williams Company. It’s the fifth consecutive year that Williams Company and its subcontractors and vendors will donate the materials and labor for the annual Home for the Holidays build. But this year they are doubling their impact by building not one, but two safe, affordable Habitat homes in just a matter of weeks.

Chris Rollins, the company’s President says each build is special.

“Having that safe haven where a family is built, where memories are built, and you know people growing future leaders, you know Gloria and Francisco’s three children, who knows what they’ll be in 20 years,” Rollins said. “It all starts with the foundation of a home.”
