PALM BAY, Fla. – Palm Bay police are looking for leads following an alleged machete attack that left three people injured Thursday night.
Officers responded around 9 p.m. to a call about a person with a machete and people injured in the woods behind the Habitat for Humanity in the 4500 block of Babcock Street NE, the police department said in a statement. At the scene, police located three victims with injuries in the wooded area, the statement reads.
Medical attention was provided to the three individuals — all of whom were said to have suffered non-life-threatening cuts to the head, leg and hand — who were hospitalized and are expected to make full recoveries, police said.
The incident was allegedly isolated to a group of people who knew each other within a homeless encampment, the statement reads, relaying investigators’ belief that there was no other threat to the surrounding community or citizens. Police do not yet have a confirmed suspect or suspects due to a lack of cooperation from those who have so far provided information about the incident, according to the statement.
Further, Space Coast Habitat for Humanity has since released a statement to social media clarifying the incident did not occur on its property and did not involve the organization.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Palm Bay Police Department at 321-952-3456 (option 0).
