4-month-old kangaroo wrangled after hopping away from Florida home

Hernando County deputies found kangaroo in less than an hour

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A pet kangaroo led law enforcement on a chase this week after escaping his Florida home near an elementary school.

Deputies with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday searched for the 4-month-old kangaroo, which was wearing a diaper and blue harness, for less than an hour before it was located.

“Not kidding! It’s a lost kangaroo,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook.

Earlier this month, a kangaroo that escaped its enclosure in Volusia County after an incident with a bear was found after two weeks of being missing.

The Volusia owner was cited for:

  • Expired Class 3 license over 1 year
  • Improper caging
  • Failure to notify FWC/report the escape within 12 hours

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office did not mention anything about the 4-month-old kangaroo’s owner.
