ORLANDO, Fla. – On Breakfast with Bridgett, Dr. Christine Moorhead, a Mohs surgeon at Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, discussed the risk factor connections between breast cancer and melanoma.
Studies have shown breast cancer survivors at a much higher risk of developing skin cancer as well. The risk is significantly higher for survivors under 50.
Those carrying the BRCA2 gene are also at increased skin cancer risk.
In addition to genetic marker testing, doctors recommend that survivors of either breast or skin cancer, regularly screen for the other.
