NASA has concerns about what it calls a potentially catastrophic air leak on the International Space Station.
While the astronauts are not believed to be in danger, officials said the air leaks are slowly getting worse after being discovered in a Russian module of the space station in 2019.
According to Space.com, NASA and the Russian Space Agency do not agree about the risk an ongoing leak poses to the station.
The module in question is one of the oldest on the station, but it is still not clear what caused the leak.
International Space Station advisory committee chair Bob Cabana, a former astronaut, said the two agencies “don’t have a common understanding of what the likely root causes or the severity of the consequences of these leaks,” according to Space.com.
The leak in this area of the station has been going on for five years.
NASA wants to keep the space station operating until at least 2030.
