Orange County deputies kick off initiative to protect shoppers, families during holiday season

Sheriff John Mina, other law enforcement leaders emphasize safety

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The holiday season is here, and Orange County law enforcement is making safety a top priority.

Sheriff John Mina and law enforcement leaders from across the county on Wednesday launched their annual Operation Safe Holidays campaign at The Mall at Millenia.

“We want our residents to know that we are out here in full force,” Mina said. “So we are going to be out here in marked vehicles, unmarked vehicles, on horseback, on bike, and on foot, in uniform, and in plain clothes, all in an effort to prevent bad guys ruining the holidays.”

The initiative aims to protect shoppers and families during one of the busiest — and most vulnerable — times of the year. Mina emphasized the importance of vigilance, reminding the public to lock vehicles, secure valuables and report any suspicious activity.

The campaign includes increased patrols at shopping centers, a focus on preventing theft and fraud, and resources to promote safe driving during holiday travels.

The kickoff event, held in the mall’s center court, featured officers handing out safety tips and answering questions from shoppers. Officials encouraged the community to take simple steps to reduce risks, such as staying alert in parking lots and keeping bags out of sight.

As the holiday rush picks up, law enforcement’s presence will remain strong to ensure that the season stays merry and bright.
