ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 17-year-old boy accused of opening fire in a crowd of people celebrating Halloween in downtown Orlando, killing two and wounding seven others, was indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday, according to the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office.
Jaylen Edgar was formally indicted for two counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of possession of a firearm by a minor and a count of culpable negligence with personal injury, the State Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
The 11-count indictment was released 20 days after the shooting sent a huge crowd scrambling, also leading to a woman being trampled, investigators said.
Police have since identified the two men who died in the shooting as 25-year-old Tyrek Hill and 19-year-old Timothy Schmidt Jr.

Gradual changes are being made in downtown Orlando in hopes the measures will curb violence in the future. Last week, the city began opening Orange Avenue to traffic, signaling the end to downtown’s free-walking “street party atmosphere.”
Edgar will be tried as an adult in the shooting, as well as in a prior grand theft auto case.
