Lake County woman convicted of murdering, burying husband in yard sentenced to life in prison

Laurie Shaver found guilty of 2nd-degree murder

LAKE COUNTY, Fla.Laurie Shaver, the Lake County woman who was convicted of killing her husband and burying him under a concrete slab, was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday afternoon.

Shaver was found guilty of second-degree murder in September.

Shaver was arrested in 2020, more than two years after her former husband — Michael Shaver, who hadn’t been seen since November 2015 — was reported missing. Preceding her arrest via a warrant on charges, including second-degree murder, investigators searching Shaver’s property along Sandy Pines Road discovered human remains buried underneath a concrete slab, which were later identified as Michael’s.

Investigators believe that Michael Shaver was killed sometime between Nov. 7 and Nov. 10, 2015.

During her trial, she took the stand and told jurors her husband was physically abusive and claimed it was her daughter Isabelle, who was 7 at the time, who shot Michael.

Tuesday’s hearing is set for 1:30 p.m.
