Volusia County school nurse faces charges of traveling to meet minor, records show

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A school nurse at New Smyrna Beach High School faces charges after being accused of traveling to meet a minor, according to jail records.

Records show that Joshua Leggett, 50, was booked into the Volusia County jail at 5:24 a.m. on Sunday.

Officials with Volusia County Schools confirmed Leggett was a contracted school nurse at at New Smyrna Beach High School.

“Our staff is working with law enforcement to ensure their investigation can move forward appropriately,” said Sarah Lux, Spokesperson for Volusia County Schools. “The individual has been placed on leave and will have no interaction with students moving forward. Further action will be determined based on the findings of the investigation.”

“Our priority every single day is student safety. Mental health resources will be available at New Smyrna Beach High School tomorrow to ensure we can assist any students who need support,” Lux said.

Leggett faces charges of traveling to meet a minor using a computer and offence against students by an authority figure, according to jail records.

He is being held without bond at the Volusia County jail.
