Woman accused in Volusia hit-and-run jumped out of truck to cover license plate with paper, deputies say

Sarah Wright, 37, faces charges

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 37-year-old woman is accused of hitting a 16-year-old boy, jumping out of a pickup truck to cover her license plate and fleeing from the wreck in Volusia County, according to deputies.

The hit-and-run crash happened just before 4 p.m. Thursday on Gage Avenue near Noah Street.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, the teen was riding his scooter home from school when he was struck by a black Chevrolet Silverado. He suffered a serious cut on the back of his head when he hit the ground, deputies said.

The driver, Sarah Wright, checked on the boy before going back to her truck to cover the license plate with paper and tape, the sheriff’s office said. A witness took down the first character of the tag and a Ring camera in the area captured the truck leaving, a news release said.

“All that info allowed deputies and analysts at the Volusia County Crime Center to quickly locate a suspect vehicle captured on a nearby License Plate Reader camera within minutes,” the sheriff’s office said.

Wright was arrested in Flagler County. She faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and driving with a suspended license.
