ORLANDO, Fla. – We may be looking at the final countdown for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Orlando Resort.
Documents filed by Universal with the South Florida Water Management District show the theme park wants to tear down the ride and replace it with something with virtually the same footprint.

The filing with SFWMD is typical if the park is looking to make changes that could affect the environment or underlying drainage infrastructure.
The plans call for an attraction with virtually the same footprint, just adding three buildings and making some apparent drainage changes to the area.
Universal did not respond to News 6’s request for comment.
Rip Ride Rockit is a steel roller coaster, with a height of 167 feet, a length of 3,800 feet, and a top speed of 65 mph. Riders are able to create their own ride soundtrack to enjoy as the ride loops through the park.
The coaster opened in 2009. In that time it has experienced periodic technical issues, sometimes requiring fire crews to remove people from the ride after being stuck for hours. This happened recently in October 2019, and November 2023.
Last February a couple from South Florida sued Universal because one of the plaintiffs said they suffered a brain injury from the ride.
It’s not known yet what Universal plans to replace the coaster with.
